KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE
NORMAL SKIN
*
The most common of skin types.
The T-zone may experience excess oiliness, while the cheek and eye areas
are drier. |
*
Occasional breakouts may occur
in the T-zone area |
*
This skin type favors seasonal
changes in their skincare program. In warmer climates, cleansers and
moisturizers for oily skin may be appropriate, while in cool conditions
the skin may need more moisture. |
*
Combination skin can benefit
from deep cleansing clay masques and hydrating firming treatments. |
ACNE PRONE SKIN
*
Acne is a condition that affects
individuals of all ages. It is not curable though it is manageable and
controllable
*
Acne can be genetically determined
and hormonally influenced
*
The three primary factors influencing
acne are:
-
an over abundance of surface skin
cells (Hyperkeratinization)
-
oil glands hormonally influenced
by androgens elevate sebum production (Sebum Activity)
-
bacteria mixes with sebum, which
irritates the pore wall, resulting in inflammation (P-Acnes Bacteria)
*
Acne and problem skin is often
characterized by persistent
breakouts; whiteheads, blackheads, redness and inflammation
*
This skin type is also prone to hyper pigmentation
as blemishes heal so daily use of sun block is a must
*
Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acid based
products, along with
anti-irritants, anti-inflammatories and anti-bacterials should be used
daily to alleviate excess skin cell buildup and help keep pores and skin
clean and clear
*
There are many conditions, whose
symptoms resemble acne. These skin conditions can also benefit from a
prescribed acne regimen
OILY PRONE SKIN
*
Oily skin is characterized by an over
production of sebum (oil) and will feel thicker than a dry or normal skin. |
*
The pores can be enlarged and skin may
be prone to blemishes. The skin may appear extremely shiny and blackheads
may be prominent. |
*
Clients with an oily skin type are determined to
keep skin very clean to control shine. It is just as important to keep the
skin hydrated with Natural Moisture Factors. Dehydration is a common
problem as oily skin individuals try to 'strip" away excess oil with
harsh cleansing products. This only leads to more oiliness.
*
The goal is to create a balance in the
skin. Pore size can be made to appear smaller with regular exfoliation and
deep cleansing clay based masques. |
DRY SKIN
*
Skin may become dry when too much sun,
wind or harsh soaps are used. Medications and poor diet may also be
factors in creating dry skin |
*
Dry skin also occurs during the natural
aging process, as sebum production slows down. You may experience fine
lines and the skin may feel tight and look flaky |
*
Regular use of daily exfoliating products with
AHA's allow for better penetration of moisturizers. The use of Ceramides
and Lipids keep dry skin hydrated and soft
*
Dry skin that lacks elasticity will see
a marked improvement when collagen-promoting supplements are added to the
skincare regimen |
SENSITIVE SKIN
*
Though considered relatively rare,
sensitivity can occur to all skin types, whether skin is
normal/combination, oily or dry. Cosmetics, fragrances, medications,
even the slightest touch can cause redness and irritation |
*
Clients with light hair, eyes and
extremely fair skin are more likely to have sensitive skin |
*
Skin may also become sensitive while taking
prescription medications. It is important to use mild cleansers, toners
and products with soothing properties.
*
Sensitive skin may also have broken
capillaries (Couperose) and extreme hot and cold can force the
capillaries to stretch or break During facials, it is important to avoid
heavy steam |
*
Exfoliate with gentle products
designed for sensitive skin and use sun protection daily.
